Different Types Of Software - 
                                
                                    Software can be categorized into the following types-

1) System Software -
                         System software is a collection of master programs designed to operate computer and its activities. Development of system software is called system programming and this helps in increasing the productivity of various application for operation on a computer. The most important system software is the computer's operating system. Example - MS DOS, UNIX etc.

*System software is also called operating software.



2) Service Software -
                        Service software is the one which provides various services to the computer users in order to program the computer. The development of the various application on the computer including the system software is the result of the service software . It ranges form compilers, assemblers, debuggers etc.

3) Application Software -
                            It is a set of program which are written by the computer user to meet their information processing requirement. These programs do specific jobs for the user and they actually come in the form of package programs. Examples- Graphics, Word Processing, Spread sheet, MS Word, MS Excel and Fox Pro etc.
